Hi. I'm new to crochet and would like to learn how to make a granny square afghan. Is there a pattern to follow and techniques I must learn? I know how to single crochet but that is about it. Someday I hope to do doilies, but I have a lot to learn before then. Any help would be great.

crochetme.com has some great tutorials and free patterns! It's good to start with an G or H hook as these are medium in size and seem to be a bit easier to handle. Granny squares come in all shapes(not just square) and sizes, but the square is easy to master : )
Hope this is some help.

Thank you. I will have to check that site out.
Go to pumahouse.com or youtube (Teresa on youtube is phenomenal) and follow a granny square tutorial, just type in granny square and crochet and they will come up. You can make an afghan by making 1 granny square and repeating the pattern until it is as big as you would like it to be.
