How we knit Throwing or Picking

In your Sept 9th issue about how we knit: Throwing or Picking, you have mixed up Fig 1 and Fig 2. Fig1 shows purling, and Fig 2 knitting, they should be the other way round.

Nice to have an article on knitting too! I'm a little tired of non-knitting articles. Knitting Daily - its in the name!!

People that know people trying to get on Knitty Daily forum with a msntv internet unit, but couldn't b/c of their upgrades are really low grade. Please mail subscription magazines in a clear cellophane sleeve/envelope. The mail delivery is not very easy on magazines. Sometimes my magazine is torn, crinkled, or even wet from rain.

I love, love, love today's post! Kathleen's ideas for a weekend knitting adventure are the inspiration I've been looking for! What a wonderful mindset--to view knitting as an adventure! I know some feel KD has done a little too much advertising of late, but if you're already a subscriber, you don't have to buy anything. I'm happy to have access to the free patterns and information. Kathleen's tip about cabling w/o a needle will save me hours of knitting time. That one tip alone is worth a fortune! I also enjoy her writing style--just reading her blogs is such a great pleasure! Changes to Knitting Daily Newsletter

Hello Knitting Daily,

I've been noticing that you guys have pretty much given up on all the lovely tips you used to post to the emailed newsletter/blog. You had many, many more posts that where helpful... but now the majority of your posts have been advertising yourself, your authors, patterns, etc. What happened to the great content? Did you run out of stuff to say? Or, is Knitting Daily just turning into the equivalent of a newspaper advert flyer? It's that way now!

Does anyone at IK actually read these forum posts? Sandi? Eunny? Anyone?

If so, please STOP with the endless spam of advertising your stuff and go back to the lively, informative, INTERESTING posts you used to do! Knitting tips and techniques. How to modify patterns. Even the cover shoot video was interesting, even though I do not understand how the decision was made to show the beige schmatte over the bright lacy tank on the cover ... but that's just me. The Galleries are very interesting.

Seriously, folks, I am about to cancel my subscription because I'm NOT getting what I want. I did not sign up for "daily advertising spam" and that is what I am now getting. I don't mind a small banner ad at the bottom touting a new book, your book sale, and things of that nature.

I'll give you a few days to reply. Hopefully, you'll read all of the posts on this topic and make some much-needed, permanent changes to the Knitting Daily newsletter content.

Free Pattern for Ebony Jewelwing Hat/Purse

Help, I am now printing off my second copy of this wonderful free pattern and it's in code. For example, the word "ebony" appears as "fcpoz", alphabetically one letter next to the correct ones. Any suggestions how I can print off a good, non-coded, copy? The hat looks so good.

I've noticed, with great pleasure, that IK is putting out yearly magazine collections in DVD form. Are you planning to do all your years? Puleeeze? though I have the stash, the DVD format would be easier for me to handle (and move)

Very disapointed (yet again) with Interweave Knits Fall issue

I've been a subcriber to IK orever. I subscribe to Spinoff as well. But I'm not planning resubscribe when my subscriptions runs out. Many of my friends have said the same. Things have changed at Interweave and not for the better in my opinion. I have not seen a pattern that I have liked in IK for the past 2 years. Knitting Daily is now just a very thinly veiled marketing campaign gone wrong. The new books are full of very odd and rather ugly patterns or a regurgitation of previously published patterns. Even the staff projects don't have the flair they used to have.

I see so many amazing patterns from up and coming designers on Ravelry... Jared Flood, Ysolda Teague, Anne Hanson, the list can go on and on. Interweave seems to focus on the 'cutting edge" fringe designs that perhaps appeal to a small segment of their market, but leave a very large share of knitters out. The Fall 09 issue was very disapointing indeed. Too many wierd designs that I would never. ever knit. What is wrong with including some amazingly beautiful designs that are timeless and appeal to everyone from 18 - 88?

The patterns that are getting the most attention on Ravelry are classic and beautiful designs that have been updated with intricate stitch patterns or make use of the properties of modern yarns. They came close with the Nordique Swing jacket, but it has a really ugly neckline. That seems to be true of most IK patterns. If I like one, it has an element to it that I really dislike. The short sleeves that were prevalent in this issue was another poor design choice that ruined several designs.

Many of the IK "modern' designs end up looking like a beginners project gone bad. Like the Rosamund's cardigan. Those bulky cables ruin the design as do the cap sleeves Cap sleeves look great on 14 year old girls, beyond that, the rest of the female population hate them. And please, what does it take to make sure the test knitter knits the size needed to fit the models ? The Berry and Bramble cardigan is far too small for the model as is the Trellis and Vine Pullover and the Rosamund's Cardigan.

All I know is that I used to think that any thing from Interweave was the gold standard. but not any more. I don't know if ythey will will take any comments seriously enough to change anything. I know I am not alone in my opinion. But we wouldn't say anything if we didn't truly care.

By the way, in case you are wondering if I am just a grumpy old granny that needs a nap, I am 36 years old and have many ,many years of knitting and spinning to look forward to. I hope Interweave will flush out the their problems and once again be the source of quality designs they had been in years past.

Thanks for the suggestion on "reading" while knitting! Great idea, but I'm not an IPod user. Can you stop in the middle of an I-book and say, two hours later come back to it and pick up where you left off?

charted lace patterns

Am I the only one that hates charted patterns? I could probably figure out how to read them but I just don't want to. I much prefer the patterns written out and any time I see a pattern I like that is charted I just pass it on by.

I have been trying to download the patterns from the "30 FREE Projects to Download and Enjoy" email of May 26. Every time I click a download button I am taken to a page that asks me to register. When I fill it in I get an error that says I'm already registered (which I am) but there is no login button that I can find.

Was this a one day only offer? I don't see a date anywhere on the post.

Question? I received an email saying that my user name had changed to something more anonymous. How is using my first name and last initial less anonymous to what I was using? Wardmom. Was this really an email from Knitting Daily or a spam? Also where is the photo icon I posted previousy? Nothing was said about this in the email.

I really like the look of the new website! However, I was searching through the patterns this morning and found that the thumbnail pictures may or may not show the item.Often times, the thumbnail picture is of the designer and the host which gives me no information about the pattern or the item. If they do show the item, it is such a small picture that you cannot really see it well enough. Not until you either open the PDF or download it can you actually see the item. I personally do not want to go through all that just to find that the pattern is not what I was really looking for. I hope the patterns page will be modified so those who are browsing can see the item before they download it.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I find it very difficult to find what I am looking for at this website. For instance, I wanted to browse through all the free crochet patterns, but had to go through many different subjects via the key word. Then, upon looking for a knitting book, there are no search features. Frankly, the way it is currently set up is a waste of time and impractical. I do hope this constructive criticism helps all of us KD fans.

I checked on the "free pattern" link and it states that they have been deleted.

The free patterns is one of the main reasons I subscribe to Knittingdaily.

1. I'm not sure why, because I haven't changed anything on my machine, but suddenly there are several web pages that will not fully display on my computer screen. In other words, even when the window is fully expanded, I have to use the slidy-bar to see both sides. Your site is one of these. News flash... not everyone has the latest and greatest equipment, some of us still use laptops that are a couple of years old (gasp!).

2. The display of the forum posts is really hard to read. There is a huge logo on the top of the page, an even bigger advertisement on the bottom, and the single post is displayed in a box so small that if it is longer than one short sentence, the reader has to keep paging down to see it.

Also, instead of taking me to the top post, it automatically goes to the last one - that would be all right if I had already read the first post, but that is not usually the case.

Dog coat patterns

I came to the site hoping to find knit patterns for dog coats...I know there are plenty online, but I also wanted the experience of chatting with others who enjoy the process by putting hand to needle......

Hopefully we can start a thread that lists dog coat/hats/etc. patterns that others have made and are tested and true.

I have two chihuahuas 4.5 and 7 pounds so finding patterns that reduce well is a challenge.

There is no reason for this to appear on every single page of the website. It causes Roboform to popup on every page of the site as it identifies a form to be filled in. This is extremely annoying when I've already logged into the site using Roboform. The magazine subscription advert only belongs on the home page, period!

i ordered a subscription to Interweave Knits on 4 March and I still have not got the Spring Issue. Where has it got to? I am not very pleased with the service. I know its a long way to come over the pond but really, waiting 2 months for a mag to come is unacceptable.

If you continue to make me wait so long then I must ask for a refund, I'm not prefered to wait another month. Kindly arrange for my spring issue to be sent or just forget the whole thing and refund my money.

Baby Blankets for Knitting Newbies

hello!

I am new to kniting (some of you may have already read my introduction) and I'm looking for baby blanket patterns. I'm being kinda picky and I'm sure I'm reaching too high for a knitting newbie but I'm trying to find something that;

1) Looks lacey and light is "pretty" enough to be a family heirloom

2) but at the same time it has to be warm and "sturdy" enough if the mommies-to-be wanted to use it for thier babies (I have two friends that are expecting).

3) I would like be able to run some pretty ribbons along two (or all four) of the edges.

4) and that wouldn't be too hard (or take too long) for a knitting newbie (I'm up for something that is at least a little bit difficult, but not so much that I get worked into knots over it)

I have found many patterns and photos online but; some sites do not have pictures of the finished product, but the pattern looks like one I can handle. While others have a picture, but no pattren for me to see. So all of this is making it hard for me to decide which pattrens will work and give me everything that I want (the four points that I listed above).

If anybody has any suggestions for me I would greatly appreciate it! Links to pattrens that might work, tips, advice... anything.
