I'm looking for a really strong yarn. Would prefer 100% wool, or at least some blend

with wool. I'm not knitting with this wool. Instead, just imagine a ball of yarn running

around on concrete. So far, I have problems with the yarn fraying/shredding. I have tried

100% wool, and 80/20 acrylic/wool.

Any suggestions? Sorry to be so vague about it's use, but it's harder to describe than

just simply saying what it is!

Also, would quite possibly be looking to contract someone to make yarn for my

company in the future if that's what it takes to get a strong yarn.

Thanks!

NEED SUBLIME KID MOHAIR YARN COLOR FIG #025

WORKING SUBLIME Little whisper short sleeve sweater and ran out of yarn. The owner told me (bless her copyright-conscious heart) that I could get the pattern on knittingdaily.com. So I purchased the yarn for two of the shawls and dashed home to join this site. Alas! either I cannot find the pattern or it is now unavailable! Anyone know where I can get it? I need to get it into progress before my long-suffering partner sees the evidence of an increased stash.

Which brings me to another point. How about if we advocate for yarn stores having alternative names so that same partner does not emerge from checking the bank account, gnashing the teeth and moaning that I've hit the Yarn and Wool Emporium again to the tune of a federal bailout but instead pleased that I support Natural and Healthy Food for the Soul Market. He does not need to know that my soul is nourished by alpaca.

Cloak pattern

I've been searching for weeks now for a pattern to make a knitted hooded cloak, at least mid thigh length or knee length, with slits for the arms to come through (not sleeves). I don't know how to convert a poncho or capelet pattern into what I want so it would need to be an actual pattern. (I still have a lot to learn about knitting, but I'm getting there.) Does anyone know where I could locate a pattern like this?

I've sewn a hooded cloak for my daughter (nightmare based on the material she chose) and I like the style (kind of rennaisance), but would prefer to knit one for myself rather than going through the sewing process again. I'm not a patient sewer.

one day sweater

About 20 years ago, I had a pattern for what was then called a one day sweater. It asked for a super large needle and smaller one, you used two yarn simultaneously. I have seen such sweaters in high end stores recently and thought I could start knitting those again.

Does any one have such a pattern?

Teaching

I originally posted this on "how do I" but maybe it will get a better response here.....

Hi! I have been "volunteered" to teach a very bright 10 year
old to knit. I have been knitting since I was 5 (50 years ago -
Yikes!) and I started out with Barbie clothes. I have no kids of my
own and have only taught adults so I need HELP!

Anyone have any suggestions on what I can have this lovely child
start on? The best part of this is that I live in NJ and she lives in
VA so this will be a long distance tutoring; I will be there one week
to get her started.

If you know of any books or projects where she would see progress
quickly I would appreciate it. OR if anyone knows of any really good
yarn stores in the Alexandria VA area who are patient enough to work
with kids I would appreciate the names so after I start she would have
somewhere to go for help.

I need this info before 11/5/09, if possible. TX!
