I like the stress free feeling I get when I know where everything is. The test was It saves my back and my time & my nerves. Anyone like to share ideas or ways you like to store your yarn keeping it dust free?

unknown yardage

My name is Leila & I'm a nurse, I am fairly new to knitting but not crochet. I do subscribe to Interweave Crochet. My mom found in her 'hidden stash' somewhere in her home, 5 skeins of a vey nice yarn. She gave them to me, saying 'make something'. But there's NO YARDS, or size number on the skeins.

The labe os yellowed, & I googgled it & got very little info. The brand is: Melrose - Designer's Choice - Cravenella - fashion yarn. It's made out of 70% wool & 30% rayon, 2 ply, 2ounces (60 grams); dye lot - 17010.01. It was made by Melrose Yarn Co, in Brooklyn, NY.

Before I embark on making something out of this, I want to make SURE I have enough yardage. does anyone have information about this yarn???? Please help me, I has a nubby but silky feeling to it - probably because of the rayon. I also sew.....

As I was reading about how many of us seem to have yarns we no longer love or want to use up, it occurred to me the sayiing that: "Someone's trash is someone elses treasure". So I am going to start a YARN SWAP which could be held at a public, pre-designated time and place and give it a trial run to see how well it goes. People simply bring some yarn and trade it. No charge. Like a garage sale but with no sale. Strictly trading out of the goodness of our hearts. Anything left , I am thinking of donating to the real Good Will Store, where it could come in contact with someone who will give these yarns a good home.

I don't know if this is a really good idea or not, but maybe it's worth a try if it can provide yarns for people who would not otherwise have the chance to obtain them!

Yarn you no longer love

Hi,

I was wondering what other knitters do with yarn they once fell in love with and now they don't like it anymore.

For example, I once bought some greenish coloured yarn, enough for a short sleeved sweater, and I've never used it. It's in a bag at the back of my stash and I just don't dare to throw it away.

What do you do with yarn that you no longer like? Keep it? Give it away? Try to find a pattern to use it with? Use it for some gift project? (Would you make a baby blanket out of a cotton yarn the colour of seaweeds?)

Finding Patterns to use the "stash"

Hi! I'm a new knitter and have recently been given quite a bit of nice yarn. I made a few scarfs and am now ready to start a more ambitious project. My new stash has the original information on it. I have 7/8/10 skeins of each. It ranges from cotton to all different types of wools and different weights. How do I find patterns to go with my the yarns. OH, the sash also came with a LOT of straight and circular needles.

Fiber

With all the new yarns with new fibers or uncommon fibers, where can I go to get information about the particular properties of a specific fiber or mix of fibers. For example, I am looking at a cotton tencel yarn online, but I don't know what properties the blend will have. I have found information online that Tencel fabric has a good drape, but is it stretchy, not stretchy?

Post your pix : vintage yarn holders and needles

I am sure there are others who have a few vintage knitting & knitting storage items in their homes that we can all enjoy Once I get a chance , I will post pix of mine

standard weight symbols

Hello - I'm new to this - exciting to get a chance to talk with knitsters!

I've been reading "Knitted Jackets" by Cheryl Oberle - one of my favorite teachers and designers - and love several patterns. I've several yarns in my stash that might work, but they were made before those standards (the numbers 1 thru 6) were started. So I'm wondering if there is any place you could send me to see if I can figure out what numbers fit my stash yarns?

Frankly, I wouldn't worry about stash busting that much, except that I've got a new dog who loves yarn. I used to leave it around, displayed in pretty baskets, but that's not an option any more. So everything I've managed to save from the Monster is now stored safely - but I'm out of room!

Thanks for your help!

Leslie
