We've enlisted several Interweave employees to try on items featured in our magazines to give you an idea of how different patterns look on multiple body types.

As you know, the same garment fits each person a little differently, so the photos here hopefully will help you decide how you want your garments to fit and which customizations will work best for you.

Knits Fall 2009 Gallery: Rosamund's Cardigan

Rosamund's Cardigan

by Andrea Pomerantz

from Interweave Knits Fall 2009

Sweater shown is 34 1/2 inches modeled with minimal ease

Andrea Pomerantz uses a clever reversible cable where it matters most in the pared-down, one-piece Rosamund's Cardigan: at the front edgings and along the collar, which look good whether the cardigan is open or closed and whether the collar is worn up or folded down into lapels.

Toni

Toni says: While I adore the offset cabling in this cardigan, I would probably wear it only with a full skirt. I have a fairly straight figure without a large difference between my bust and waist, and I don't have a large waist to hip ratio. The bulky yarn decreases the hip to waist ratio even farther. I do really love the cabling however, so I might try lengthening the cardigan to mid-hip creating more of a jacket appearance and playing up the slightly bulky charm.

Height: 5' 5 ½"
Bust 35"
Underbust: 31"
Waist: 29"
Hip: 37"
Torso: 15"

Ruth says: It was really fun modeling these sweaters--I've never modeled anything before. For the cardigan, my preference is to wear it open; it looks best that way for me in terms of comfort and style. This color also looks great with black, a color I tend to wear the most and something I can easily wear for work.

Height: 5' 4"
Bust: 34 ½
Underbust: 29 ¾
Waist: 28 ½
Hip: 32 ¾
Torso: 16"

Keira

Keira says: This was my favorite of the three I modeled. I wouldn’t change a thing about the fit. It looked great with the skirt I was wearing, a more sophisticated look for when I want to dress up a bit. But I could definitely see wearing it with jeans and a tank top under it as I like the short sleeves.

Height: 5’ 7”
Bust: 31 ¾
Underbust: 27 ½
Waist: 26 ½
Hip: 32 ½
Torso: 17 ½

Kathleen's Fit Notes

The cardigan looks great on everyone, especially since they've all made it their own-buttoned up, lapels open, with jeans or a skirt-whatever suits
the mood!

Keira has a longer torso than Toni or Ruth, and I think that suits the sample-sized sweater best. If Toni made this sweater, I think she would want to lengthen the torso, adjusting the waist shaping as necessary.

It's interesting that Ruth's hip measurement is identical to Kiera's but Keira likes the cardigan closed and Ruth likes it open. I think it looks good buttoned on Keira as she has a slightly longer neck than Ruth.

I agree with Ruth that the black color of her shirt and shirt helps offset the cardigan's neutral color for her skin type.

What do you think? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

The Every Way Wrap is just plain fun to wear and as soon as I saw it, I selected my jeans and a belt to wear with it. I love the way this piece can be worn with all kinds of outfits.

Kathleen's Fit Notes

This has got to be one of the most unique and creative wrap designs I've ever seen. I love the way the gallery gals choose different ways to wear it, especially Keira, who couldn't stop finding new ways to "wrap the "wrap"!

Fit-wise, this looks great on all three women, and because of its versatility it'll flatter all bodies. There's also a wide range of sizing available for the wrap: 14½ (16½, 21, 26)" wide and 59" long, to fit bust sizes 32-37 (39-41, 43-45, 47-50)".
It's a keeper.

What do you think?
Toni

Keira says: I liked the three-quarter-length sleeves and the length. But if I were to personalize it, I’d like it to be a bit more fitted. So I would either add some shaping through the waistline or add ties at the side that I could tie in back and cinch it up. The ties could be satin ribbons or knitted or crocheted strings.

And I’d also sometimes wear it with a long sleeved top underneath.

Height: 5’ 7”
Bust: 31 ¾
Underbust: 27 ½
Waist: 26 ½
Hip: 32 ½
Torso: 17 ½

Toni says: The length on this sweater illustrates a problem my short back frequently creates: the swing shaping ends at the widest point of my hip. I would make the next smallest size and shorten the length by at least an inch and a half.

One thing to watch for when shortening a garment with three-quarter-length sleeves is that shortening the sweater might place the hem at the same height as the cuff of the sleeves. This would probably make me look wider, so I might need to either lengthen or shorten the sleeves as well. I did fall in love with the simple wheat ear lace pattern.

Height: 5' 5 ½"
Bust 35"
Underbust: 31"
Waist: 29"
Hip: 37"
Torso: 15"

Brenda

Brenda says: The Nordique sweater looks like it was made just for me! The fit is perfect and the color, very rich and vibrant, is one that I have in my wardrobe. The sweater hits above my hip, my preferred length for sweaters--any longer and it make my torso looks too elongated.

As a staple in my closet, I would probably make a version that had full length sleeves to wear throughout the year.

Height: 5' 5"
Bust: 33 ¾"
Underbust: 29 ½"
Waist: 27 ¼"
Hip: 37 ¼"
Torso: 16"

Kathleen's Fit Notes

I live the swingy look of this cardigan, whether it's worn open or closed. Flattering on all three models, I think the sample size looks best on Brenda and Keira. Toni hit the nail on the head with her comments about adjusting the length of the sweater, including the arm length.

When you're adjusting a sweater, it's important to look at the schematic and compare your measurements to the schematic. If you need to make a bigger size because of the bust measurement, be sure and check the arm measurement, too, especially on a sweater like Nordique: a shorter sweater with three-quarter-length sleeves. You want the sleeves to stay three-quarter-length and not hit at a place too near your wrists (or hips, as Toni mentioned).

This sweater is a sweet, feminine piece that you'll want to wear like all of our gallery gals did--buttoned up, just a few buttons fastened, with jeans or a skirt--whatever works with your personal style.

I love the purple colorway used in the sample, but this would be a staple in black, cream, or gray, too.

What do you think? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

Fitting a circular-yoke sweater can be tricky: for a handy guide for plus-size knitters and a detailed discussion of fit for all sizes, check out Lisa Shroyer's adventures in upsizing the pullover on the Inside Knits blog tomorrow.

Changing the colors of the body or yoke accents can change the look of the entire sweater. In its bones, the Freyja Sweater is classic, easy to wear, and almost universally flattering.

Brenda

Toni says: This stunning sweater is hands down my favorite from the fall 2009 issue. Although I’m generally a jeans and t-shirt kind of gal, this would also be fabulous when paired with a skirt and boots. The texture of the yarn is heavenly, and I loved the colors. The length of this sweater ends perfectly at mid-hip, and the gentle shaping works well on my fairly straight figure while the simple colorwork draws attention to my face.

Height: 5’ 5 ½”
Bust 35”
Underbust: 31”
Waist: 29”
Hip: 37”
Torso: 15”

Brenda says: This is a beautiful sweater and simply sumptuous with the alpaca yarn. Unlike some of my sweaters, the softness of the yarn allows this to be a worn-alone sweater. The fit on this sweater is perfect.

I'd probably choose a different color combination, though, because these colors are very light for my skin color; plus I tend to wear brighter colors.

Height: 5' 5"
Bust: 33 ¾"
Underbust: 29 ½"
Waist: 27 ¼"
Hip: 37 ¼"
Torso: 16"

Kathleen’s Fit Notes

This one goes on the “make it!” list for me. I love the Bohus look and this sweater is a wonderful example. Both Toni and Brenda look great in this sweater, though I agree with Brenda that her coloring would really benefit from brighter colors. Toni’s peaches-and-cream really shines with
this colorway!

The Freyja fits Brenda perfectly, as her bust measurement is close to the model’s bust measurement. Toni’s just a bit over an inch larger than Brenda in the bust, but I think a size 36 would be better for her—roomier and a bit longer in sleeves, too.

Don't forget to check the Inside Knits blog tomorrow for some upsizing tips from Lisa Shroyer!

Because there's already a lot of design and color at play here, I'd match it with a white tank and medium-wash jeans.
Bust 34.5"
Waist 27"
Hip 37.5"
Height 5' 8"

Sandi's Notes:
Those colorful squares aren't crocheted--they're knitted! Teva, whose cleverness takes knitting to all kinds of interesting places, has taken an old technique and made it new again: Filet knitting. Worked from a chart, where each square equals three stitches, filet knitting enables you to create intricate lace panels that can form geometric shapes, or even imagery. Here, the squares echo quilted designs, and bring a folksy air to this cute top. With its down-home style and interesting technique, this top calls to me...because I'm really just a country girl at heart.

Specific tips for our Gallery Gals:
- OK, Trish, I know you think this one is "a little young for you," but I think it is ADORABLE on you! It brings out your playful side, and the colors are great for your complexion. The shoulder "straps" need to be a bit wider so they sit better on your narrow shoulders; but everything else is perfect, perfect. (Maybe I ought to make this one for you, hm? Evil me.)
- Toni, stop that. Stop being so cute in every single sweater. You're not giving me a chance to write anything creative here if you just keep on being cute in everything.
- Although, you know...Sharon looks amazing here too. The size is perfect--see how the shoulders sit so well on her? Good stuff.

Here are some questions to consider as you look at these photos:

How do you think the garment compliments each woman's individual body type and personal style?

Which body type does this garment look best on?

If you wanted to knit a sweater straight out of the magazine, with no pattern adjustments except for sleeve and hem length, would this be the sweater for you and your body type?

Would it fit your personal style?

Leave your thoughts in the comments!

The images above are from the magazine where the 45" size sweater is shown laced and modeled with plenty of positive ease at the bust.

The images below are of our Interweave Gallery Gals wearing the same sample sweater.

Special note on sizing from Lisa Shroyer, senior editor of Interweave Knits:

Because of the expansiveness of the gauge in the layette stitch pattern, this garment can fit a range of bust sizes; as you can see, the sample 45" garment looks good on our model and the Gallery Girls, all of whom fall below 40" at the actual bust.

However, the garment can accommodate up to a 44" bust, with much less positive ease than shown here. Whether or not you want the garment to "accommodate" your bust in this way (with little ease) is up to you. For myself, I would strongly consider the circ of the ribbed lower body. Choosing a size that works for you in that area is almost as important as choosing one that works at the underarm/bustline. The bodice will naturally contract because of the strong contraction of the ribbed lower body, but the bodice can be spread to the full measurements as given.

Toni says: I love this top because it is so versatile. I could wear it with jeans or a skirt. Actually I would likely wear it with a jean skirt, just as I did in these photographs. Tops that incorporate ribbing through the midsections always catch my attention.
Bust 34.5”
Waist 28”
Hip 36.5”
Height 5’ 5.5”

Sandi's Notes:
I love vintage styles, and this one makes me think of pearls and big swirly skirts. Because of its timeless vintage appeal, it's a sweater that can be worn by any woman of any age. The shaping is graceful and provides plenty of fullness in all the right places, making this a garment suitable for a variety of body types and sizes. Glam it up--how about a rose pink version? Or black, if you want the jeans-and-heels look. The Stanwyck, like its actress namesake, can play in any scene you can imagine her in.

Specific tips for our Gallery Gals:
- Karen and Trish both definitely need a smaller size--see how the shoulders are falling off their natural shoulders, and how the top bunches up at their underarms? The next size down is four inches smaller: This would pull the end of the ribbing up so it is closer to their underbusts, as the designer intended; it would also help the sleeves be more in proportion to their delicate frames--and it would definitely fit them better overall. The green is a pretty color on both women, though!
- Toni could shorten the ribbed hem by about two inches so it would fall at the top of her hips, helping to balance her proportions and bring the eyes up to her face.

The images above are from the magazine where the 36.5" size sweater is modeled with plenty of positive ease. The notes for the pattern state:

Because of the way the fronts hang when buttoned as shown, the garment actually has more positive ease than just the difference between bust measurement and garment measurement.

The images below are of our Interweave Gallery Gals wearing the same sample sweater.

Toni says: This sweater would quickly become an often worn addition to my wardrobe if I could only somehow sneak it out of the office. I can see it having a wonderfully elegant effect on a fancy dress or skirt, or a more casual look with a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. It is fun and loose and the drape of the fabric makes me look good as I move.
Bust 34.5”
Waist 28”
Hip 36.5”
Height 5’ 5.5”

Sandi's Notes:
This vest is floaty, classic, elegant. Wear it with a dress or skirt to a wedding, an afternoon tea, or other dressy social function. Or, add your best jeans, some dazzling earrings, and a killer pair of heels, and go out on the town, safe against the evening's chill. Two bits of sizing advice: Get the shoulders to fit, and make sure there is enough room at the bust so that the garment hangs gracefully overall.

Specific tips for our Gallery Gals:
- On Trish, whose shoulders are super-narrow, the garment overwhelms her small frame. She should make a smaller size.
- Notice the ease difference between Allison, whose bust is the same measurement as the garment's (zero ease), and Toni, whose bust is two inches smaller (2" positive ease). On Toni, the vest has a bit more fabric to "swing," giving the sweater a graceful movement. On Allison, the vest fits more closely and loses some of its airy grace. I'd advise Allison to make the next size larger, and Toni to try to sneak out of the office with the sample garment in her backpack. :)

Allison says: This wrap sweater feels so soft and lovely, and the color is gorgeous in person. I think that this would work especially well with a skirt (as it is shown with in the magazine) because it hits at my natural waist. It would show off the waistband of a skirt nicely. I would go up a size if I were planning to wear the wrap with pants, just to get a little more length and room.
Bust 36”
Waist 27”
Hip 36”
Height 5’ 4”

Sandi's Notes:

I noticed that several of the Gallery Gals wanted to tie this one in front, instead of at the hips as shown in the magazine. I think a lot of women are sensitive about having big knots or ties in the tummy/hip area, but the cabled ties here are long enough so you can make a small knot at the back, as shown on the model, instead of directly at the side of your hip where you might not want to add the extra "width."

When tied as the designer intended, the cables form the illusion of a graceful wide belt, beginning at your natural waist, not the widest part of your hips. Experiment!

If that tie is just too long for your taste, the knitting police will not come after you for making it shorter...or even eliminating the "tie" entirely and using a button to form the lovely wrap silhouette. This is a sweater where the right "wrap" technique can make or break the look.

Specific tips for our Gallery Gals:
- See how there isn't enough fabric for Allison to form the front "wrap cross"? She needs a size larger.
- On the other hand, Karen has so much fabric that even the ties can't help her; she needs a size smaller. However, for her height, she has very long arms; she might want to lengthen the sleeves!
- The shoulders look too big for Toni--but notice how the hip section is pulled too low? If she tied the sweater up higher, near the top of her hips, the entire sweater would fit better.

Allison says: I thought this was a fun, summery piece--perfect for the beach or a quick trip to the farmer's market. It's a little more spare than I would usually wear, so I would probably pair it with jeans as I did for the photo shoot.
Bust 36”
Waist 27”
Hip 36”
Height 5’ 4”

Karen says: I guess I’m ready for summer because this tank instantly made me think of the beach.

Sandi's Notes:

I've been seeing a lot of these tank-tunics lately--and on a variety of body types! (No, really.) This one makes me think of a great after-yoga (Pilates?) cover-up; it also makes me think of all those darling dance outfits the folks wear for practice sessions on TV dance shows.

Wear it clingy if that makes you happy; wear it looser for a California-heels-and-sunshine-shopping look.

If the length makes you nervous because it might enhance curves you'd rather hide, then you have two options: work the waist and hip section with larger needles, to give yourself more room there; or shorten the tunic so it becomes a lace tank, gracefully skimming just the top of your widest bits.

Specific tips for our Gallery Gals:
- I think Allison needs the next size up, due to the way it pulls across her bust.
- Karen's wearing it with 2" positive ease, but this works for her because she likes to layer things underneath.
- Note the difference in length between 5' 8" Sharon and 5' 4" Karen. To determine length for yourself, mark where the underarms fall on a favorite tank top, then measure down your side to the point where you'd like the tank to end. Compare that to the schematic and knit accordingly.

I could immediately imagine myself wearing this classic with a pair of slacks or a simple skirt.
Bust 34.5”
Waist 28”
Hip 36.5”
Height 5’ 5.5”

Trish

Karen

Trish says: An interesting and intriguing design. It was fascinating how the button/buttonhole arrangement created the cascade of pleats. To me, this is one of the dressiest of the bunch. I'd wear it with a long skirt to the theater.
Bust 34"
Height 4' 11"

Karen says: This reminded me of my beautiful friend Chieko from Okinawa who never goes anywhere without one of her folding fans. I think there’s a lot of versatility: with a pair of jeans or with a solid a-line skirt.

Bust 32"
Waist 24"
Hip 38"
Height 5' 3"

Sandi's Notes:

This is a stunner. On everyone! The side vents give you room at the hips; the graceful folks flatter a variety of bust sizes and shapes. I think this is one of those timeless designs that will look good on a lot of different body types--and STILL look good years from now when those body types age (gracefully, of course...).

Specific tips for our Gallery Gals:
- I think a size larger would make Allison feel less self-conscious about the folds accenting her bustline. It's lovely on her, but it does pull a bit; she needs more positive ease overall.
- Trish's bust measurement is right for the actual measurement of the sweater, but she has such a tiny frame that the sweater looks too big overall. I'd like to see her in a smaller size--it would fit better at the shoulders, which is a critical area for overall fit. The folds would give her enough room in the bust area, given her proportions and build.
- Karen also needs a smaller size--see how the shoulders don't sit at the right spot? At first glance, you might think this size fits fine on her, because the length is good and the sleeve length is good--but remember that Karen has long arms and a long torso for her size. The shoulders tell the real story: She needs a size smaller for this sweater to fit her perfectly.

The images below are of our Interweave Gallery Gals wearing the same sample sweater.

You will notice that there are no ease statements given for this sweater. Ease in the usual way of thinking about it--how closely the garment fits to your body--is not really applicable here. Think of this garment as a shrug with elogated fronts and that will help you visualize this one.

The pattern gives a series of finished measurements for each size of the shrug; use those, combined with your own measurements, to decide which size to make for yourself. We found that the fabric of this loosely-knit sweater (laceweight yarn knit on U.S. size 7s!) was very stretchy with a gorgeous drape.

We've shown the shrug worn several different ways here, with a variety of garment styles and colors. We found it to be surprisingly versatile. Once the Gals found out it was stockinette on large needles, I heard some of the girls plotting to go buy yarn so they could cast on for a shrug of their own right away!

Instructions to make the necklace worn by our Gallery Gals can be found in our sister magazine Beadwork (April/May 2009); it was designed by Danielle Fox.

The back is meant to swing loosely from the shoulders; as you can see here on Elizabeth. She's wearing the shrug over a close-fitting tee and skirt which is a perfect combination for a bright spring day.

Toni decided that it was spring on the February day when we shot these photos, and so showed up in a playful khaki skirt and killer brown boots. She pointed out that the Whisper Cardi matched her skirt perfectly, and looked smashing on her, and thought that we really ought to just give her the sweater "because it was meant to be mine." Sorry, Toni. I think you have a lot of competition for the sweater here!

Bust: 34.5"
Waist: 28"
Hips: 36.5"

Ease: 1.75" positive ease

Height: 5 feet 5.5" inches

This was a Gallery Gal favorite right off the bat! The bracelet length sleeves were comfortable to wear, the ultra-feminine stitch pattern and buttonband detailing made even an ordinary khaki skirt look like party wear!

The sweater is a great match for Toni's gentle curves; the pattern band fell at exactly the right height for her this time! We noticed that she kept tugging at the wide scoop neck a bit; Toni prefers a more modest neckline so her straps are neatly tucked out of the way. She would thus want to work fewer decreases at the neckline and shoulders to give her more fabric and coverage there.

Fit Tip: If you are concerned about the width of a neckline, measure a favorite sweater that fits you well in this area. Compare the neckline measurements of the favorite sweater to the measurements given in the pattern schematic, and then make adjustments as needed.

Stefanie

Bust: 34"

Ease at bust: 2.25" positive ease

On Stef, the pattern band hits her almost at the underbust, and the ribbing barely reaches her hips, making the sweater look too short on her. However, sweater length is not always about adding more ribbing at the hem--that's not what is needed here, for example.

Stef needs more length in the stockinette section between bust and pattern band so that the bottom of the pattern band sits just at the top of her hipbones, as on the model in the magazine photos. Adding in extra length in the stockinette section automatically puts the ribbing right where it should be--over her hips--and would give a longer silhouette and better "curve definition" overall. The sleeves, as well, could use more length for Stef.

Bust: 36"
Waist: 29"
Height: 5 feet 5.5 inches

Ease: 0.25" positive ease

Elizabeth also needs a bit more length between bust and pattern band. But the sleeves look too long, and the cuff seems loose on Elizabeth's narrow-boned arms, so she could cast on fewer stitches at the cuffs, increasing up to the number needed for the main portion of the sleeves, and then work fewer rounds after the pattern band to make the sleeves shorter.

For a closer, more body-hugging fit, Annie could make the next size smaller--here, she has more than 5" of positive ease, and that's a lot of ease for a pretty spring top.

Elizabeth has an "hourglass" body type; the deep V-neck and empire waist of this pretty sweater compliment her figure perfectly. The 38" size, shown here, gives her enough positive ease to provide good coverage over the bust area, and the elastic nature of the stitch pattern gives the fabric enough memory so that the sweater hugs her curves nicely. The tiny shoulder pads give her shoulders a bit of vintage glam, especially from the back. Lovely!

The necklace and earrings being worn by our Gallery Gals in these photos is courtesy of our sister publication Stringing magazine (Winter 2008 issue), and was designed by yours truly, Sandi Wiseheart!
Toni has a more athletic body type, with a gentler curve at her waist. The empire waist shows off her more subtle curves, and the V-neck is a perfect frame for her dazzling smile. The sleeves fall just below the empire waist, helping to keep the eye moving; the bud stitch section falls smoothly over her hips without clinging or bunching. We all noticed that the dusty rose color of the yarn was a wonderful shade on rosy-cheeked Toni.

The images above are from the magazine where the sweater is modeled with plenty of negative ease for a close fit.

The images below are of our Interweave Gallery Gals wearing the same sample sweater.

Bust: 31"
Waist: 25"
Hips: 34"
Height: 5 feet 3.75 inches

Ease at bust: 0.75" negative ease
Ease at waist: 1" positive ease
Ease at hips: 3.25" negative ease

Sometimes a sample garment only fits one Gallery Gal, but it is so lovely that we have to show it off! The Sweet Tee was just too cute not to show you.

A classic yoke sweater, the Sweet Tee is easy to adjust. Note that those of you with fuller busts may need to work more increase rounds before joining the sleeves and body and/or you may need to work short-row bust darts. Both provide the extra fabric you'll need to cover more generous curves.

Sleeve cap sizing: A too-tight or too-loose sleeve cap in yoked designs can make a big difference! Measure your arm in the bicep area around its widest point and adjust the sleeve-cast on accordingly. If you are self-conscious about your upper arms, lengthen the sleeves. If you are large busted, however, try not to have the sleeves end at the widest point of your bust or you will create a wider silhouette at a point where you least need width!

Here are some questions to consider as you look at these photos:

How do you think this garment compliments Annie's individual body type and personal style?

Which body type does this garment look best on?

If you wanted to knit a sweater straight out of the magazine, with no pattern adjustments except for sleeve and hem length, would this be the sweater for you and your body type?

Would it fit your personal style?

Leave your thoughts in the comments!

Toni, side

Bust: 34.5"
Waist: 28"
Hips: 36.5"

Ease at bust: 1.5" negative ease

Height: 5 feet 5.5" inches

We all LOVED this sweater.

The bust ease measurements are approximate, of course, based on the finished bust measurement given in the schematic. You can adjust the tightness/looseness of this sweater very easily--in the photo above at left, we've tied the wrap a bit more loosely than in the photo above at right, for example.

The only comment I might make here is that the upper arms seem a bit tight on Toni. Either she needs to do fewer reps during her workout, or she needs to do a few more increases in the upper arm section of the sleeve, and adjust the armhole bindoffs accordingly.

The knockout necklace our Gals are wearing is from our sister magazine Beadwork (April/May 2009 issue), and was designed by Jean Campbell.

Stefanie, back

Stefanie, front

Bust: 34"

Ease at bust: 1" negative ease

Here you can see how the wrap flatters a more rectangular body type--the tie gives the illusion of a deeper waist than Stef actually has. Stef also has muscular upper arms and would want to work a few more increases in the upper sleeve area.

Notice that this sweater looks equally great on both ultra-feminine Toni and urban rocker girl Stef! It takes on a slightly different look depending on what clothes and accessories you wear with it.

Allison

Bust: 36"
Waist: 27"
Hips: 36"

Ease at bust: 3" negative ease

Height: 5 feet 4" inches

Here's how the wrap style looks on someone with a fuller bustline. Notice that the fuller your bust, the lower those diagonals on the neck edge will fall. So if you have a very full bust, you might consider adding additional width on either side of that lovely sloping diagonal line for better coverage--or going up to a larger size.

Here's Annie, working the positive ease angle! The sweater wraps around the side more, but the neckline still forms that lovely V that frames her face.

Again, Elizabeth's fuller curves mean that the edges of the V neckline do not come up as high as they do on the smaller-busted women above. There is a larger size, a 36.5", which would provide better coverage at both bust and hip. The larger size will also have larger armholes and larger shoulders, all of which would compliment her frame better.

Bust: 40"
Waist: 36"
Hips: 42.5"
Ease at bust: 7" negative ease

Height: 5 feet 3.75 inches

You can see here how the sides of the V neckline are not really providing adequate coverage due to my larger bust. There's a size 40.5", which would fit me a lot better, without the need for alterations.
