you once wrote about the economy of knitting and referred to the cost of a movie and all of the other entertainments that you could spend on during the time that you were occupied knitting. You then prorated those expenses against your yarn and found that a knitted item could be quite economical under those considerations.

I would love to find that post!

I have some old pattern books that lack information about the yarns used. Today I found several old patterns with the gauge appropriate for a yarn I can buy now, but I don't know how much to buy. The patterns I was looking at today all use Pinguoin yarns. The yarns specified are Charmille, Soda, and Minou. The patterns for Minou say that Atoll may be used instead. The patterns say how many balls of yarn are needed, but neither the weight nor yardage per ball is given.

Can anyone tell me how to find the yardage in these old yarns, and in old yarns in general?

Yarn subsitution for Modern Quilt

on your blog you have a discussion about yarn substitution for the modern quilt pattern. There is a link to click to get the amount of yarn for each color. But when I click the link, there is nothing there. Is there any way to get that information?

Your photo

Sandi, you need to post a new picture! You looked great at Knitter's Connection. You should share the "new you" with the Knitting Daily world!

5 Sweaters

Sandi, I hope you are getting along fine. I wonder, does anyone keep a "tickler file" for you. In connection with the blog you did on Sandi's 5 Sweaters . . . originally on June 23, 2008 and you very kindly responded on July 8, 2008 to my question asking what was "your final decision" saying you are trying to get back to it. You may have heard the saying, "The squeaking wheel gets the oil." So here I am again! Thanks for any time you might be able to spend on geting back to that one. ZassZ

Using Wires

Sandi, love the tutorial on using wires, is it possible to have it as a 'pdf' would like to print it off for future reference, thank you

Grafting on the needles

Hi, Sandi- I love your technique of grafting on the needles. However, I have the same question as someone else who posted a comment:

What does "work these two stitches together as established" mean? I
thought this meant to knit the last 2 stitches together, which I did. These stitches don't lay flat with the others.

What is the secret with these last 2 stitches (1 on each needle).

Thanks for all the great tips and patterns over the years ! I am attempting my first crochet garment using your cute Graffiti pattern (I am really a knitter). I did the calculations to determine how wide and long the top should be (based on the stated gauge requirements)and it seems like it is going to come out really small. I am needing to add some chains when I begin as I cannot seem to get the huge gauge no matter how I try. Can you help me by providing some measurements or a schematic ? Thanks So much !
