  • Re: resizing a pattern

I don't think you need to put yourself through all that. I question her gauge. Too bad she didn't model them, so we could see what she considers a traditional sized wrist (21 cm = 8.27 in -- ???). But its very pretty, and I have just decided I will make a pair, too. I think you should try smaller needles first (especially if you already have

You can get it from Interweave's store for $4.50. (I think it was free a long time ago ...) http://www.interweavestore.com/Knitting/Patterns/Koolhaas-Hat.html

  • Re: Sock Problem

I couldn't do that -- I would have to rip out and start over. When I knit socks, I knit them both at the same time so they will have the same tension. Inevitably, I end up starting over ( early on) a couple times per sock. The finished product makes it worth it (to me). The first time I knit a pair of socks, each one (of 4) came out progressively

Knitty.com is a really great resource for free patterns and interesting articles. They "publish" online, monthly. Go to their archive, and you can search for hat patterns, among others.

  • Re: WTS?

Not sure what part you don't understand. Maybe you are trying too hard. Sometimes you have to blindly follow each instruction without trying to understand how it all works. I had that experience with sock heels. The instructions were a little confusing with all the turning, RS, WS, etc. I still don't see it, but it comes out right, which is

  • Re: knitting with beads

(through Knitty) I found great instructions for putting the bead on the stitch before you work it. Until I saw this blog, I never attempted knitting with beads -- because I've never understood the instructions that have you string the beads ahead of time. This worked for me -- includes clear pictures. http://rosemarygoround.blogspot.com/2007/08

  • Re: charted lace patterns

No, you aren't the only one -- lots of people can't "see" the charts. People see things differently, and relate differently to graphics vs text. Personally, I find it easier to follow the graphic visuals. Whenever there are written instructions, I lose my place and end up re-reading over and over. Also, it takes me longer to memorize
