  • Bobbin Winder - non traditional

A friend and I have come up with a few non-traditional bobbin winders that will save a few bucks. Conair has a hair braider. It is battery operated. Leclerc bobbins fit nicely on this. It also works well for fringe. You can find one for somewhere between $8-15. Your husband's or wife's power drill. I use mine with a bit of masking tape on one
  • Arthur Allen Looms

Can someone tell me about Arthur Allen Looms? I'm thinking somewhat longingly about a used one and would like to know about them. I Goggled them, but couldn't find much. I don't think I used the right word search. I think it was a company out of Oregon.

  • Looking for used loom

I'm in the process of looking for a 36" used floor loom. It's been a while since I've woven. It was an ethical choice between student loans and eating or a loom. I see all the names being flaunted about. I've talked to weavers in our guild here, they all have their favoirts and have a hard time telling me the pros and cons. I see

  • Re: Backstrap Loom

With an even weave, I tug the weft a big after the shed is changed and beat to even out the selvages. Warp face...let me think a moment...it is tough to get the edges even. Mine were a bit wavy. I worked at it. If I get too close to the rigid heddle, the fabric spreads out. It should be possible to use the string heddles on the rigid heddle frame. It's
  • Re: Backstrap Loom

Actually my beat is even. The weft color is white so it doesn't show much. It works the same as your backstrap loom. You just don't need to be strapped down. In terms of warp face, it's not a problem. Just don't beat with the reed. Beat hard with the shuttle and pull it in as you weave and it will become a beautiful warp face. I've
  • Re: Backstrap Loom

Got it. I had to use Explorer instead of Mozilla. Picky program. Anyway, my warp is a bit uneven in places. Part is due to the dreaded acrylic yarn. Part is due to me. I tried to get the beat and selveges even.

Laverne, It's not the greatest picture, but it will do. One problem...I'm having trouble uploading any photos. I'll try again later.
  • Re: Norwegian Knitting Thinble

Ulrike, I had to dust off a bit of German from when my mother taught me. I used: http://www.appliedlanguage.com/translation_resources/free_translation.aspx? to help with the other words. "for your contribution and your referring to the practical “cord assistance” for the Norwegian samples!" I plan on using the thimble on my son's

Laverne, I haven't got to my backstrap loom lately, but I did get a blue ribbon (1st place) on my rigid heddle weaving at State Fair. I worked on color combinations and getting those selvages even. My father is helping me on trimming up the wood for the backstrap loom parts. He should be done soon. I'll prod again. Denise

  • Norwegian Knitting Thinble

To make a long story short, I had an unfortunate run in between a new cat and my dog. Needless to say, my finger got the brunt of the cat's teeth. I still have cat and dog. My finger has heeled. I am a continental knitter (picker) and after about five minutes of knitting, the yarn chafes my scars something nasty. Band-aids don't quite hack it
